[Nikon] Apple Phone FTP Wireless Upload
Connect your camera to your phone's personal hotspot, and use the camera's FTP function to transfer photos from the camera to the UPHOTO cloud.
Supported cameras: Z8, Z9, Zf, Z63
TIP
FTP wireless upload can only upload photos taken after the connection. If you need to upload historical photos, please refer to the "Common Issues and Solutions" section in the bottom of this page.
I. Phone Settings
1. Check and modify phone name
In Phone Settings -> General -> About, change the "Name" to use simple letters and numbers, and do not include "Chinese", "spaces", and "special characters" (this name is the name of the phone's "Personal Hotspot"). As shown below:
2. Turn on phone personal hotspot
In Phone Settings -> Personal Hotspot, turn on "Allow Others to Join". As shown below:
If a "Wi-Fi is Off" prompt pops up when turning on, please select "Turn on Wi-Fi". As shown below:
Note: The password of the personal hotspot must use simple letters and numbers, and do not include "spaces" and "special characters". If you are using an Apple 5G phone model, you need to turn on "Maximize Compatibility". As shown below:
II. Obtain FTP Service Information
Open the "UPHOTO Live APP" and log in successfully.
In the APP album list, select the album you want to shoot, and click the "Upload Now" button.
Select "Wireless FTP Transmission" in the shoot and upload or local upload page.
After selecting the photo upload group, enter the "Shoot and Upload" interface.
Note: If it is the first time using the "UPHOTO Live APP", an authorization request of [Allow "UPHOTO Live" to find and connect to devices on your local network?] will pop up, please click "Allow". As shown below:
The first time you enter the upload interface, "FTP Service Information" will pop up (this information will be used in subsequent camera settings); after that, click the "FTP Transfer" button again, and "FTP Service Information" will be displayed directly. As shown below:
Note: If the "IP Address" shows "Failed to obtain, please check Wi-Fi or hotspot settings", it means the "IP Address" failed to be obtained. First turn off the phone's "Personal Hotspot" and then turn it on again, and then return to the "Album List" in the APP before re-entering the "FTP Upload" interface.
III. Camera Settings
3.1 Connect the camera to a wireless WiFi network
In the camera's network menu, find "Router band" and select "5G Hz".
In the camera's network menu, find "Connect to FTP server" -> "Network settings" -> "Create profile" -> Select "Manual setup" -> "Wireless LAN" -> Select "Wireless" to enter settings.
Enter the WiFi name prepared in Step 1 in the SSID field, for example, "ALLTUU" in the image, and press OK. Then enter the WiFi password prepared in Step 1 in the password field, for example, "12345678" in the image, and press OK.
3.2 Configure server settings
Return to the Manual setup wireless LAN page, select "FTP" to enter settings. Select "FTP" as the server type. Enter the FTP server address displayed on the transfer page in the "Address" field (in this example, 172.20.10.3).
⚠️ Note: The FTP server address is the FTP server address displayed in the middle of your phone's transfer page. 172.20.10.3 is just an example. Please double-check!
Clear the folder field as shown on the left. Change the "Port" to the FTP port obtained from the transfer page (in this example, 01234). Set PASV mode to "OFF". Set Anonymous login to "OFF".
Then enter the FTP username "ftp" in the "Username" field below and press OK. Enter the FTP password "1234" in the "Password" field and press OK.
3.3 Connection successful
Return to the "Connect to FTP server" page. If the WiFi text is displayed with a green background, the connection is successful. Enter "Options". Turn on "Auto upload" to "ON". Turn off "Delete after upload" to "OFF". Set "Upload RAW+JPEG as" to "JPEG only". Then half-press the camera shutter to enter Live View mode and start shooting.
IV. Shoot and Upload
Half-press the camera shutter to enter Live View mode. After taking a photo, the photo will automatically be transferred to the photo list of the "UPHOTO Live APP".

Can I mark photos for upload during Nikon FTP connection?
Yes, you can. When reviewing photos, you can achieve one-click FTP upload.
- After successful FTP connection, select [Shoot and Transfer] mode on the phone.
- On the camera: Turn off [Auto upload] under the camera's FTP settings. Set custom control (playback) -> FTP to upload (FTP) -> Priority upload, as shown below.
- On the camera: When playing back photos, press the set shortcut key, and the photo will be automatically uploaded to the album.
